For many years, St. Luke's existed as a strongly “Anglo-Catholic” parish of the Episcopal Church, with a devotion to Our Lady and the Eucharist. As the decades passed, discernment grew. In 2011, the pastor and people of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Bladensburg voted to enter as a group into the Roman Catholic Church, and were received on October 9, 2011, the feast of St. John Henry Newman, by Donald Cardinal Wuerl.
This October 9 marks the 10
th anniversary of the reception of St. Luke’s parish into the Catholic Church. We celebrate this every year with a Novena of Thanksgiving, but this year will be especially festal.
There will be a Choral Evensong on Friday October 8 at 7 pm.
On the anniversary, Saturday October 9, there will be a Mass at noon, with the Most Rev. Steven Lopes, bishop of the Ordinairiate of the Chair of Saint Peter, as celebrant, followed by a pig roast.
We will close the Novena with the Masses of the weekend of October 17 in celebration of the Feast of St. Luke.
Come join us as we mark this amazing landmark in the discipleship journey of St. Luke's!
